INTERNAL AUDIT
We ensure that Goldman Sachs maintains effective controls by assessing the reliability of financial reports, monitoring the firm’s compliance with laws and regulations, and advising management on developing smart control solutions. Our group has unique insight on the financial industry and its products and operations. We’re looking for detail-oriented team players who have an interest in financial markets and want to gain insight into the firm’s operations and control processes.
The primary role of Internal Audit is to help protect the assets, reputation and sustainability of the organization. We ensure that Goldman Sachs maintains effective controls by assessing the reliability of financial reports, monitoring the firm’s compliance with laws and regulations, and advising management on developing smart control solutions. Our group has unique insight on the financial industry and its products and operations. IA assists the firm's Board of Directors Audit Committee in fulfilling its oversight responsibilities and regularly interacts with the external independent auditors.
TEAM & ROLE OVERVIEW
Internal Audit helps protect the assets, reputation and sustainability of the organisation. As the third line of defence, we independently assess the firm’s control environment, including its governance, risk management, capital and financial crime frameworks.
Our role extends beyond identifying control weaknesses. We engage constructively with management to evaluate risk, advise on sustainable control solutions and assess whether remediation is implemented effectively

What you'll do
Across the audit lifecyle, you will
- Contribute to audits from planning and scoping through fieldwork, issue validation and reporting.
- Own discrete workstreams, taking increasing responsibility as your experience and credibility grow.
- Design and execute test programmes that assess the design and operating effectiveness of key controls.
- Document analysis, testing and conclusions clearly and precisely in line with audit methodology.
- Evaluate the significance of risks and issues and follow up constructively on remediation
Build expertise
- Develop broad, transferable knowledge across the credit risk lifecycle, from origination through provisioning and capital.
- Stay informed about emerging credit trends, macroeconomic developments and evolving regulatory expectations.
- Understand how the Basel capital framework and accounting standards such as IFRS 9 and CECL operate in practice at a global institution.
- Analyse complex portfolio data to identify themes, outliers and potential control gaps.
- Form evidence-based conclusions and communicate them clearly to colleagues, business partners and, increasingly, senior management.
- Help assess whether commercial strategy is supported by effective and proportionate risk management
- Support and coach analysts and new joiners as your experience develops.
- Share knowledge and leading practices across regional teams in London, New York, Birmingham and Dallas.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, from a recognised university
- Approximately three to five years of relevant experience in Internal Audit, second-line Credit Risk Management, consulting or external audit role
- Understanding of credit risk lifecycle in at least one area, together with the curiosity and motivation to develop broader expertise
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, sound judgement and genuine intellectual curiosity
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to look beyond the immediate question
- Ability to manage multiple deliverables and work effectively to deadlines.
Preferred
- Progress towards, or completion of, a relevant professional qualification such as FRM, CFA, CPA or ACA
- Familiarity with credit products across lending, derivatives, securities financing or private credit.
- Understanding of the laws, regulations and supervisory guidance relevant to credit risk management.
