Operations is a dynamic, multi-faceted division that partners with all areas of the firm to deliver banking, sales and trading and asset management capabilities to clients around the world. Alongside this vital service delivery role, Operations provides essential risk management and control, preserving and enhancing the firm’s assets and its reputation. Operations span all product lines and markets, serving as internal business partners who develop the processes and controls, and help to specify the systems that deliver accuracy, timeliness and integrity to our business.

Global Banking & Markets Division (Equity Derivative & Structuring Operations) is responsible for ensuring efficient and accurate transaction processing across a broad range of products. Generally, the products supported are complex instruments that require close alignment with the business. A key focus for the organization is establishing strong risk management procedures and controls to ensure the firm and our clients are properly protected. Global Banking & Markets Division is at the forefront of shaping and driving change in the industry with the ultimate aim of delivering greater accuracy, control and efficiency for our clients and our businesses.

The Exotic Trade Review team is a cross product high-value risk management team in Operations that mitigates the risk associated with the trade booking and legal documentation of Structured Derivative transactions through independent and thorough review. Exotic Trade Review covers a wide range of EQD businesses and products and works closely with trading to improve trade booking accuracy and ensure appropriate tradeables are being used to validate that all significant terms are being captured in the booking.  Our clients execute across a range of products e.g OTC and Listed Options, Securitized Issuances, Structured Derivatives, Synthetics, and cash Equity. It is our responsibility to ensure positions are booked and maintained accurately in our risk systems throughout the lifecycle of the product. Individuals will also work closely with technology and strategists to improve workflows to be more efficient and implement more robust controls. There is a strong emphasis on knowledge and expertise, which requires that all team members be fully versed in products and systems used and how our day to day tasks impact the bottom-line of the firm. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prepare to gain a comprehensive understanding of the lifecycle of a trade by interacting with Traders, Strategists, Sales and Structurers in addition to Middle Office, Legal, Product Control and Documentation teams in order to work toward the shared goal of risk mitigation
  • Partner with a team of product experts to review all economic aspects of Derivative trades while gaining strong Exotic Derivatives knowledge and financial risk awareness
  • Showcase your attention to detail by ensuring all trade economics, pay-off profiles and pricing factors are correctly captured in the risk management system
  • Use your inquisitive mind set to identify control weaknesses with respect to booking methodology as well as discrepancies in the legal documentation
  • Leverage your quantitative skills to decompose complex structured transaction payoffs and propose creative, robust booking solutions
  • Work in a strong team setting to develop a deeper understanding of complex transactions and work with our business partners to automate and improve our existing processes
  • Owning and liaising with other teams within GS to ensure timely resolution of queries, seeing operational issues through to resolution by connection with various stakeholder across multiple locations
  • Monitor and control operational risk throughout the trade processing lifecycle
  • Become a subject matter expert to mitigate risk and drive efficiencies

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • Proven analytical skill, problem solving ability and a control mentality paired with meticulous attention to detail
  • Aptitude for building relationships and ability to communicate complex issues to a wide array of internal clients with differing levels of product experience
  • Self-motivated and proactive team player who takes ownership and accountability of projects, has strong organizational and communication skills and the ability to effective manage competing priorities
  • Flexible and able to work well under pressure in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Quantitative educational background
  • Experience in an Equity Derivative, Commodity or Foreign Exchange documentation team or product area, including structured transactions
  • Ability to remain composed under pressure
  • Takes actions to ensure that controls are in place and procedures are followed
  • Candidate must have good communication ability, be proactive, enthusiastic and team oriented
