Within AWM, the Finance group supports each asset management business through a variety of functions, including managing the valuation process for each AMW Private business (e.g., recommending appropriate quarter-end equity and debt valuations) and analyzing, budgeting and projecting the performance of each business. This position will be within the AWM Finance group assisting in both the monthly / quarterly valuation process and the budgeting process.

Innovator from Goldman Sachs Asset Management is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Finance Analyst to join our growing finance team. This role will serve as a key contributor to the accounting function. The candidate will play a critical role in financial reporting, process improvement, and oversight of core accounting activities, while also mentoring junior staff and helping drive operational excellence.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and own key components of the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Review and analyze financial statements, identifying trends, variances, and actionable insights
  • Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, ensuring proper controls and accuracy
  • Prepare and review complex journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Review and approve employee expense reports for compliance and accuracy
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and detailed variance analysis
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP
  • Partner with the VP of Finance on strategic initiatives, reporting enhancements, and process improvements
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff 
  • Assist with audits and coordinate with external auditors as needed
  • Drive continuous improvement in accounting systems, processes, and internal controls
  • Provide ad-hoc analysis and reporting to support business decisions

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 3+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis) and accounting systems
  • Experience with month-end close ownership and financial statement preparation
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact across departments
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • CPA or active progress toward CPA strongly preferred

Salary Range
The expected base salary for this Chicago, Illinois, United States-based position is $70000-$100000. In addition, you may be eligible for a discretionary bonus if you are an active employee as of fiscal year-end.
