External Investing Group (XIG)
The External Investing Group (XIG) is responsible for identifying, researching and selecting leading third-party investment managers. The group provides investors with investment solutions across leading private equity funds, co-investment strategies, secondaries, hedge fund managers, GP stakes, real estate managers, public equity and fixed income strategies.
With over 400 professionals across 12 offices globally, XIG helps institutional and individual investors with their program design, manager and deal diligence, portfolio construction and risk management. The investment solutions in XIG have a long history and our programs have seeded and partnered with many of the world's most prominent alternative investment managers.
Today, XIG oversees over $500 billion in client assets across portfolios of both customized and commingled fund solutions as one of the world's broadest, deepest and longest-standing “open architecture” programs. We manage globally diversified programs, targeted sector-specific strategies, customized portfolios, and a range of advisory services. Our investors generally access opportunities through new fund commitments, secondary market investments, co-investments, seed capital investments, investment manager equity / revenue share stakes, or fund of fund solutions.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct due diligence and evaluate private equity opportunities; secondary private equity transactions, with a specific focus on asset-level valuation within portfolios or continuation vehicles; primary fund commitments for a variety of private market strategies; co-investment opportunities across a broad range of deal types and sectors
- Support the deal team on direct investment opportunities (single asset secondaries, co-investments) by evaluating financial, legal and commercial due diligence materials and building operating and buyout models in various asset classes, meeting with management and GPs
- Perform due diligence on private market fund managers across Asia-Pacific, including assessing the quality of investment teams, investment strategies, alignment and track record
- Present investment opportunities to the Investment Committee through written and oral presentations, and conduct required follow-ups
- Coordinate the execution of investments across all deal types, including working closely with internal (e.g., internal counsel, compliance, cash management) and external parties (e.g., private equity managers, external counsel)
- Monitor the performance and risk profile of existing portfolio investments
QUALIFICATIONS
- 1-3 years of experience in Corporate Finance/ M&A/ Leverage Finance/ Private Equity/ Other Private Markets Investing in Asia-Pacific; position will be commensurate with experience
- Proven academic performance with a degree from a top university; MBA a plus for more senior positions
- Excellent modeling, analytical, communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational skills to oversee production of a high volume of quality work within tight timeframes, often including multiple simultaneous projects
- Attention to detail – proven experience of delivering high levels of accuracy
- Candidate must be a team player, self-motivated and demonstrate a willingness to take on responsibility
- Knowledge and understanding of Excel, PowerPoint and Word and adaptability to other software products
- Written and verbal communication skills in English. A second language (Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, etc, will be strongly preferred).
