The Operational Risk Department at Goldman Sachs is an independent risk management function responsible for developing and implementing a standardized framework to identify, measure, and monitor operational risk across the firm. 

Role Overview

This role requires an energetic self-starter that can liaise with stakeholders across the Goldman Sachs Bank Europe (GSBE) entity. Familiarity with the business, the operational risk framework, combined with strong analytical skills, interpersonal skills, and being a problem solver are necessary for this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse the entity's adherence to regulatory requirements and frameworks; remain current on regulatory and industry changes impacting the GSBE entity; support preparation of materials for regulatory deliverables and internal/external audits
  • Assist with preparation and analysis of risk management reporting for the Board, Executive Committee and Risk Committee; develop analytical reports and presentations for senior management, executive committees, and regulatory exams; provide administrative support for the Operational Risk Manager, including maintaining key risk mitigation plans and tracking actions
  • Work with senior stakeholders across the entity to strengthen and develop the risk framework to ensure compliance with regional regulatory expectations; engage with stakeholders to promote an integrated approach to risk management
  • Facilitate operational risk event management framework and data collection, including detailed reviews of significant events to ensure appropriate remediation plans are implemented, and identification of trends to identify significant or emerging risks; investigate incidents and near misses with the Risk Manager, ensuring lessons learned are communicated
  • Conduct scenario analysis by working with stakeholders to develop and quantify scenarios measuring tail risks used for stress testing and capital calculations
  • Ensure operational risks arising from new products, activities, migrations, etc. pp. are properly considered and assessed
  • Conduct training and raise awareness of the operational risk framework within the region; interact with internal & external stakeholders in matters related to audits and regulatory inspections; experience in designing, developing, and automating reporting tools would be an asset

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 3 + years of relevant experience working in either operational risk, risk management, compliance, internal audit, or within a control function at a financial services institution
  • Strong understanding of risk management concepts and how controls, policies and procedures enable effective prevention, detection, and mitigation of risks; strong technical and quantitative aptitude to understand and determine quantification of operational risks
  • Good understanding of the continental European regulatory environment, Financial Markets, products traded, and the processes and business/technology flows in an Investment Bank
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills; ability to work independently, form own judgment/opinions, provide insights and drive change; self-starter with proven track record of delivery
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills in English; ability to present and communicate status, risks and technical details with impact and influence; ability to interact with and build relationships across different departments and seniority levels
  • High level of attention to detail, project management, and prioritization skills; ability to balance daily deadlines with timely implementation of strategic projects; strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment; team-oriented with ability to work independently and proactively
