Your Role:

You will be a member of Global Markets Legal at a bulge bracket investment bank.  Looking for an attorney with experience in the ETF area to address a broad and diverse range of legal and regulatory questions and issues that arise in connection with Goldman’s US fixed income businesses in the Global Markets - Public division (Rates, Agency Debt, Agency MBS, Investment Grade, High Yield, Emerging Markets and Portfolio Trading desks) as they relate to the establishment of seeding and the creation of new ETF’s, especially with respect to ETF emerging asset classes in FICC.

In this role, you will be on the frontlines serving as a trusted advisor to the business and control-side colleagues and will have exposure to all aspects of a dynamic business.  You will also play an important role in helping the firm navigate the evolving regulatory landscape and market structures in the Americas markets.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal and regulatory advice to key stakeholders in the ETF group in Trading, Sales, and Federation personnel on all facets of ETF creation and regulation as well as an understanding, or the willingness to develop expertise, of the underlying cash instrument sales and trading matters, including with respect to real time trading documents relating to ETFs as well as inquiries, regulatory requirements, market structure, counterparty disputes, regulatory advocacy, cross-border issues, regulatory investigations and responses, and development of policies, procedures and best practice with relation to the FICC ETF market
  •  Advise business regarding fixed income market matters and negotiation of arrangements with ETF counterparties, issuers, advisors, and distribution agents related to every aspect of the creation and trading of FICC ETFs
  •  Primary advisor to the senior trading heads of the FICC ETF partners and senior traders, including real time trading advice, creation and redemption, and knowledge of the underlying asset classes 
  • Serve as legal advisor in connection with development of new businesses, services and products and partner with key stakeholders to help understand and manage the potential legal and regulatory risks
  • Collaborate with other control-side teams, including compliance, risk management, controllers operations and engineering to address relevant legal and regulatory requirements impacting FICC ETF sales and trading, and developing policies and best practices
  • Assist your manager, and other legal and compliance teams in managing litigation and regulatory matters, internal and external audits and examinations  

Qualifications and Attributes:

  • Strong sense of ownership and responsibility; thoughtful and detail-oriented
  • Self-starter; capable of building and leveraging an internal network of resources and support
  • Strong legal and business judgment, communication, writing and analytical skills
  • 5+ years of relevant experience working with or at a financial institution, including relevant experience at a law firm, is preferred
  • Knowledge of trading of ETFs and related FICC products, including as understanding of market practice and regulations
  • J.D. or comparable law degree from a competitive law school and licensed to practice law in at least one state

Salary Range
The expected base salary for this New York, New York, United States-based position is $170000-$270000. In addition, you may be eligible for a discretionary bonus if you are an active employee as of fiscal year-end.
