For every new product launched and every trade executed, it is Operations that develops and manages the processes and controls that enable business flow.

 The Asset Wealth Management Alternatives Private Real Estate Portfolio Services is seeking an Associate to support the settlement and vendor management function within Goldman Sachs Asset & Wealth Management. The Asset and Wealth Management Division (AWM) invests in corporate equity and debt, real estate equity and debt, and infrastructure-related assets and companies. The Asset Management Alternatives (AM Alts) investing business operates on a global platform and our team works in a fast-paced, exciting environment. 

The settlement function is a diverse role that entails collaboration with the Business, Agent banks, Engineering, Controllers, Tax and teams across Operations to cash manage and facilitate a business that is multi-asset, dynamic and bespoke.  Asset classes include Real Estate, Private Securities, and Loans. The successful individual will be expected to manage the team, be commercial, analytical & creative whilst ensuring the highest level of risk management.

The vendor management role offers dedicated support for the high growth investing business within AWM. This is an exceptionally diverse role that entails collaboration and interface with all AM Alts businesses, third party vendors and consultants, and Engineering, Legal, Controllers, Credit, Tax, Compliance Teams

 Alternatives Private Real Estate Portfolio Services members are subject matter experts within Operations who play a critical role in settling deal-related transactions and processing various payments in multiple settlement systems in the Asia region. Members ensure that daily operation of cash management of our multiple entities adheres to GS control standards.

The vendor management functions provide leadership, guidance and support in the on-boarding, diligence, oversight, expense management and invoice approval of third-party vendors, consultants, advisors, and partners which is critical to support the AM Alts business execution, growth, and risk management.

 JOB RESPONSBILITIES

Settlement: 

  • Gain an in-depth & comprehensive understanding of bespoke Real Estate, Private Credit, and Private Equity structures and its funding flows.
  • Partner with the Business, Federation, and external parties to provide subject matter and system knowledge expertise for seamless transaction closings.
  • Manage the team and ensure risk is managed across all settlement functions.
  • Showcase your attention to detail by ensuring accurate settlement, creating/approving regulatory reports and performing risk assessments. 
  • Ensure control measures are established to scrutinize exceptions/errors to prevent any operational losses and review these measures constantly.
  • Leverage your analytical skills to assess payment risks and contribute to proposing optimal operational models.
  • Facilitate the business by providing solutions to urgent requests by showcasing your ability to drive issues and collaborate with multiple internal stakeholders and external Agent Banks in a fast-paced environment, while ensuring control standards are not compromised. 
  • Drive, execute and deliver change (e.g., risk reduction, increased efficiency)
  • Face off with stakeholders and drive priorities.

Vendor Management:

  • Develop strong understanding of the firm’s vendor program and ability to utilize various vendor-related systems
  • Develop an understanding of the wide array of businesses with AM Alts
  • Create and maintain detailed tracking tools
  • Exhibit strong communications skills, inclusive of tailoring messaging effectively to variety of both internal and external audiences
  • Utilize strong analytical skills and comfort manipulating numbers
  • Collaborate with other professionals in the firm to progress process and risk management initiatives and uplifts
  • Exhibit strong responsiveness
  • Develop comfort with management, validation and allocation of vendor expenses
  • Face off with senior stakeholders and drive priorities
  • Exhibit excellent judgement & problem-solving skills

 BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Candidate must be comfortable in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong problem solving, communication and presentation skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong execution ability.
  • Innate curiosity and drive.
  • Flexible and able to work well under pressure along with leading the team in the right direction.
  • Self-motivated and proactive team player, who takes ownership and accountability of projects, has strong organizational skills as well as the ability to effectively manage competing priorities. 
  • Able to work well in a team environment across multiple teams and regions.
  • Japanese language skills required.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior experience in a settlement or vendor management function. 
  • Prior knowledge of Real Estate, private funds, Loans, and Equities preferred but not essential.
