GBM Private, Real Estate Financing Group (REFG) - Originations, Vice President, New York

The Real Estate Financing Group (REFG) within Investment Banking is a leader in commercial real estate lending and was the top-ranked contributor to U.S. CMBS securitizations for 2017-2023. REFG’s Originations team is responsible for the sourcing, underwriting, and execution of securitized and balance sheet lending on commercial real estate assets and is looking for a Vice President to join their Originations team in New York.

Investment Banking Division

Our division works on some of the most complex financial challenges and transactions in the market today. Whether advising on a merger, providing financial solutions for an acquisition, or structuring an initial public offering, we handle projects that help clients at major milestones. We work with corporations, pension funds, financial sponsors, and governments and are team of strong analytical thinkers, who have a passion for producing out-of-the-box ideas.

Role Responsibilities

  • Originate commercial mortgage loans across a range of property types (office, retail, hotel, multi-family, self-storage, data centers) for the group’s standalone and conduit Commercial Mortgage-Backed Securities (CMBS) business, as well as for the bank’s balance sheet.
  • Build and maintain relations with financial sponsors, REITs, pension funds, high net worth individuals and corporations.
  • Value commercial real estate assets across all classes and geographies.
  • Perform market, property, and Sponsor due diligence.
  • Participate in all aspects of loan origination, from asset level due diligence to investor calls. 
  • Liaise with the group’s Capital Markets, Credit and Securitization teams to determine execution and capital markets distribution strategies. 
  • Analyze real estate trends and track industry-wide CMBS new issue activity.
     

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 9+ years or Masters degree and 7+ years of work experience in investment banking, real estate, credit origination, or other relevant roles
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with both internal and external audiences
  • Track record of establishing & maintaining client relationships
  • A track record and 5+ years’ experience in leading/managing deal teams of analysts and associates 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple transactions under deadlines 
  • Solid work ethic, motivation level, and strong attention to detail 
  • Personal integrity, initiative and leadership qualities 
  • Capacity to interact and build relationships with a wide range of people and act as a point of contact 
  • History of outstanding academic and professional achievement 

 

Salary Range 
The expected base salary for this New York, New York, United States-based position is $150000-$300000. In addition, you may be eligible for a discretionary bonus if you are an active employee as of fiscal year-end.
