Divisional Overview

Established in 2006, the Private Infrastructure business sits within the wider Goldman Sachs Asset & Wealth Management (“AWM”) and has consistently navigated the evolving infrastructure asset class, having invested approximately $13 billion in infrastructure assets across market cycles since inception. Today, we are a mid-market value-add infrastructure private equity investor with a focus on value-creation throughout the hold period for our investments. We aim to identify complex and operationally intensive assets where we can differentiate ourselves both through our investment process but also our rigorous focus on asset management. We are a team of ~35 investment professionals, split across London and New York and the team is responsible for end-to-end delivery of investment from entry to exit.

 Role Overview & Responsibilities

Goldman Sachs Asset Management Private is seeking an Analyst to support the Infrastructure Investing team, specifically working with the Infrastructure ESG Business Unit Lead. The successful candidate will join the ESG Business Unit Lead in the management and execution of the Infrastructure ESG program, including implementing ESG initiatives throughout the deal life cycle and reporting to various internal and external stakeholders. This individual will serve as an ESG generalist and support function for the Infrastructure Division.

 

Job Responsibilities 

  • Manage ESG data collection and analysis
    • Work with the Sustainability & Impact (“S&I”) team to manage data collection from portfolio companies including performing quality assurance and quality control of received data
    • Work with infrastructure portfolio companies to onboard ESG data tools for GS reporting requirements including – GHG calculation and ESG data collection tools
    • Create project analytics and maintain dashboards/basic ESG data summaries, year-over-year trends, etc. – at the portfolio company and fund levels
    • Work with the S&I data team and ESG data vendor to create new dashboards and analytics for portfolio company and fund level data
    • Work with the ESG Business Unit Lead to accurately reflect data within various regulatory, voluntary and client reports
  • Assist in AWM Private Infrastructure sustainability reporting, including:
    • SFDR, GRESB, TCFD, Infrastructure Sustainability Report, UN PRI content creation and management of cross-divisional review/comment integration
    • Partnering with internal ACMS teams to answer client ESG data requests
    • Work with deal teams on the creation of ESG case studies and program highlights for reporting and marketing initatives
  • ESG project management and initiative tracking, including:
    • Coordinating with deal teams and portfolio companies on ESG post-closing action plans
    • Decarbonization planning and portfolio company GHG emissions tracking
    • Portfolio company specific ongoing ESG risk monitoring and value-creation initiatives 
  • Work with the Infrastructure ESG Business Unit Lead to build out and update ESG tools and communications materials
    • ESG Guidebooks and Toolkits
    • ESG Materiality Tools, DD checklists, Quarterly ESG Value Creation Scorecards
    • ESG training materials for Asset Managers and Portfolio Companies
    • Case studies for client meetings and marketing materials
  • Engage with vendors / relationship management
    • Support VPs and/or own external relationships with vendors that enable the ESG program to scale
    • Host and/or join introductory vendor meetings to assess fit
    • Own and manage strategic partnerships through regular meetings to stay up to date on latest vendor happenings and project updates
    • Identify new vendors and partnerships, screen, vet, and propose to team
  • Project coordination and stakeholder management
    • Work with ESG Business Lead to gain in-depth knowledge of ESG philosophy, programs, and process 
    • Assist in the preparation of monthly leadership and weekly team updates
    • Collaborate with portfolio companies, deal teams, and ESG Business Lead to surface/strategize and implement ESG risk mitigation and value creation initiatives across investing verticals – energy transition, transport and logistics, essential services and digital infrastructure
    • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to advance ESG objectives and the various internal groups involved in execution. This includes working cross divisionally with Legal and the AWM S&I team to make process revisions, modifications to docs, create/amend policies and agreements, and manage vendor management office requirements

 

Desired Qualifications 

  • 2-3 years of ESG program/project management consulting, data management and analysis, and/or reporting experience 
  • Strong written and verbal communication 
  • Ability to create and format a presentation (in PowerPoint and other applications) with a high-quality and professional appearance
  • Comfortable working within Excel 
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and strong attention to detail 
  • Effective and responsive communication with the ability to manage internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to prioritize workload and proactively resolves task/project ambiguity; sense of urgency
  • Interest in ESG, sustainability, and/or climate change
